Today was picture day. We all had our pictures taken. If you didn't order pictures that is ok. These pictures will go in the yearbook. Also, retakes are in 3 weeks. We worked in our reading groups and worked on leveled independent reading contracts. We also worked on subtraction strategies that involved using fact families to make the connection of subtraction and addition. Your child should have brought home a letter explaining a new website that will help the students with spelling and vocabulary. If you have any questions please contact me.

At the end of the day, we experienced a quick rainshower, our class was in Library with Mr. Duck and the lights went out for a quick second.

The radio station Mix 94.1 has put together an event at 4 valley Targets (one is the Target next to our school on Eastern and Silverado Ranch) to help collect items for schools that have students that need basic items to live and survive. We have a few kiddos at our school that would benefit from donations. The ultimate goal is to get businesses to adopt schools that are in desperate need. I stumbled upon a site where teachers can enter their "Wish Lists." I know that many parents provided items in this list so please disregard if you were able to donate. They call it a "Wish List" for a reason.

Sorry, we haven't blogged in a couple of days.
Here are a few updates;
We are still finishing up school/district/teacher needed assessments to help us teach your students the best we can. Giving them takes time and so does grading them. We should have them all wrapped up by the end of next week.
We are still working on EnVisions Topic 2: Addition Strategies and should be finished by this Friday, concluding with their first "official" math test.

Good Morning!
Just as a reminder, next week on Friday, Sept. 16th, we will have the choir in front for morning ceremony for the pledge and they will lead the school in singing "The Star Spangled Banner," in leu of National Anthem Day! Please encourage ALL students to wear red, white, and blue.

As we embark on the second week of school just a few notes...
Homework packets went home today along with Math Homework Workbooks. The math must be brought to school everyday for review. The packet is due on Friday, completed with a parent signature on the reading log. Since it is a short week, the reading log for Monday can include something they read over the weekend. Please encourage your child to write a summary of what they read, stressing the importance of using complete, legible sentences.

With all the changes happening within the Clark County School District regarding budget cuts, it has been proposed that teacher's health coverage be cut.
