Perimeter
Materials:
• Pencils
• Grid Paper
• Math Journal Objectives
for 3rd Grade:
3)3.4 identify perimeter and area of regular and irregular figures
by counting units.
Procedure:
Teacher will introduce the concept of perimeter
by asking… What do you think perimeter is? If perimeter means
around, what do you think we should measure? After discussing the
concept of perimeter, Teacher will model for students how to measure
perimeter of a figure which is different or sides that are not equal
by adding each side up. Teacher will practice finding the perimeter
with students by drawing different shapes on grid paper ( the large
primary kind) and having the students add each side up. After practicing
together, students will work individually to find the perimeter
of specific figures given by the teacher.
Math Journal:
How can knowing how to find the perimeter help you?
