Materials:
• Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division multi-digit number word problems.
• Overhead
• Pencils
• White boards and Markers

Objectives for 3rd grade:
Select and apply strategies to solve practical mathematical problems.

Procedure:
Teacher will read the story problems with students.
Using overhead, teacher will model for students to underline question, cross out extra info., circle important numbers and square around clue words.
Teacher will model how to record main idea, assumed info., multi-step problems, selecting a strategy, choosing operation, number sentence, answer, is this answer reasonable?
Teacher will practice solving a story problem with student using their white boards and markers
Students will practice solving an addition story problem with a partner.
