About Me
My name is Rachel Liberty Ferreiro. I was
born July 22, 1976 at Women’s Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. I was raised in Boulder
City, NV until my parents decided to move to Green Valley, NV when
I was 12 years old. I graduated Green Valley High School in 1994.
After I graduated I started UNLV and Community College as a Hotel
Major. At the same time I was working front desk at Circus Circus.
My boss and family friend, Gert Pina, told me that the hotel business
was not all that I thought it was cracked up to be. She made me
promise that I would finish college and not go into the hotel business.
She was right. After 2 semesters of hotel classes, I decided it
wasn’t for me.
I worked front desk for a while at Circus Circus, then went to
the Monte Carlo front desk (where I met my husband) when it opened.
Then I opened the Paris, Las Vegas as a Concierge. Being a Concierge
was more than I could have imagined. I was invited to dine in all
the 5 star restaurants, see all the shows, and check out all the
new night clubs in the city. Then I got married to the man of my
dreams August 20, 2002, gained a step-daughter and had my beautiful
daughter New Years Day, 2004. I decided not to return to the Paris,
Las Vegas so I could stay at home with my daughter and finish school.
I changed my major to Elementary Education
and became a substitute teacher. That is how I found myself at
Tony Alamo Elementary School. I took a substitute job there and
met Mrs. Mausbach, the principal. I fell in love with the school
instantly. The teachers and staff were so friendly; they actually
made eye contact with me and wore smiles on their faces. I had
been in other schools for practicums and observations and never
experienced such a positive atmosphere. Mrs. Mausbach was in
need of a substitute to cover a vacancy in Humanities. I was
so impressed with Tony Alamo ES that I didn’t
mind going back to work full-time. I continued the year working
with the Literacy Specialist, guest teaching wherever I was needed,
and working in the Resource Room with special education students.
I couldn’t have asked for a better learning experience. I
graduated from UNLV in August 2005. I was honored to accept the
job for the 2005-2006 school year at Tony Alamo ES teaching 2nd
grade. I was even more honored when I found out that I had been
chosen to be on the ISP (Inclusion Schools Project) team. ISP is
geared at including special education students in the mainstream
classroom. I worked very closely with the Primary Special Education
teacher, Mrs. Bastin. I can’t say enough about her. I wouldn’t
have made it through the year without her.
We welcomed a new little girl December 26, 2006. Wow, do I have
my hands full?! After much thought and consideration I have decided
to take a leave of absence from teaching for the 2007-2008 school
year to take care of my family. Thanks to the CCSD for allowing
me the opportunity. I plan on returning to the classroom for the
2008-2009 school year. |
